Abstract: The differential production cross sections of $\mathrm{B}^{\pm}$ mesons are measured via the exclusive decay channels ${\mathrm{B}^{\pm}\to\mathrm{J}/\psi \mathrm{K}^{\pm}\to\mu^{+}\mu^{-}\mathrm{K}^{\pm}} $ as a function of transverse momentum in pp and PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy ${\sqrt{{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}}} = $ 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair with the CMS detector at the LHC. The pp (PbPb) dataset used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.0 pb$^{-1}$ (351 $\mu$b$^{-1}$). The measurement is performed in the $\mathrm{B}^{\pm}$ meson transverse momentum range of 7 to 50 GeV/$c$, in the rapidity interval $ | y | < $ 2.4. In this kinematic range, a strong suppression of the production cross section by about a factor of two is observed in the PbPb system in comparison to the expectation from pp reference data. These results are compared to theoretical calculations incorporating beauty quark diffusion and energy loss in a quark-gluon plasma. | ||

Summary |
In summary, the first measurement of the differential production cross sections of $\mathrm{B}^{\pm}$ mesons in pp and PbPb collisions at ${\sqrt{{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}}} = $ 5.02 TeV has been presented. The mesons are measured with the CMS detector at the LHC in rapidity $ | y | < $ 2.4 and transverse momentum 7 $ < {p_{\mathrm {T}}} < $ 50 GeV/$c$ via the reconstruction of one of their exclusive hadronic decay channels, ${\mathrm{B}^{\pm}\to\mathrm{J}/\psi \mathrm{K}^{\pm}\to\mu^{+}\mu^{-}\mathrm{K}^{\pm}} $. The nuclear modification factor of $\mathrm{B}^{\pm}$ is measured as a function of its $ {p_{\mathrm {T}}} $. A strong suppression by about a factor of two is observed in the PbPb system in comparison to expectations from the scaled pp reference data. These measurements provide constraints on phenomenological models which aim to describe the flavor dependence of the in-medium parton energy loss. |
