Abstract: This analysis searches for a new heavy vector boson, denoted W$^{\prime}$ boson, in its decay to a tau lepton and missing transverse energy using LHC data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The analysis uses the full 2012 data set of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{-1}$ recorded with the CMS detector. The discriminating variable is the transverse mass, $M_\mathrm{T}$, where new physics would manifest itself as an excess over a low standard model background. The W$^{\prime}$ boson could either couple democratically to all generations (sequential standard model) or exhibit a non-universal coupling. No indication of a signal was observed and mass limits of 2.7 TeV are set in these models. | ||
