Search for new physics in final states with a tau and missing transverse energy using pp collisions at s=8 TeV
Abstract: This analysis searches for a new heavy vector boson, denoted W boson, in its decay to a tau lepton and missing transverse energy using LHC data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The analysis uses the full 2012 data set of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb1 recorded with the CMS detector. The discriminating variable is the transverse mass, MT, where new physics would manifest itself as an excess over a low standard model background. The W boson could either couple democratically to all generations (sequential standard model) or exhibit a non-universal coupling. No indication of a signal was observed and mass limits of 2.7 TeV are set in these models.
