Search for supersymmetry using razor variables in events
Abstract: We present an inclusive search for supersymmetry in events with at least one bottom quark jet, performed on data collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.3 inverse femtobarns. We study the distribution of the data in the kinematic plane defined by the razor variables R2 and MR in search of a peaking signal on top of a smoothly falling standard model background. The data is consistent with the expected background, modeled by a two-dimensional analytic function. Exclusion limits on supersymmetric particle masses at 95\% confidence level are derived in several simplified supersymmetric scenarios. We exclude the pair production of gluinos in multi-top quark and multi-bottom quark final states for gluino masses up to 1300 GeV and 1210 GeV, respectively, as well as the pair production of top squarks in top quark-antiquark final states for top squark masses up to 710 GeV, depending on the mass of the lightest supersymmetric particle.
