Abstract:
Measurements of inclusive and differential Z/γ∗ production cross sections in pp collisions at √s= 13 TeV in the muon final state are presented. The data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb−1. The measured total inclusive cross section times branching fraction is σ(pp→ZX)×B(Z→μ+μ−)= 1870 ± 2 (stat) ± 35 (syst) ± 51 (lumi) pb for the dimuon mass in the range of 60 to 120 GeV. The measured value agrees with next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD and next-to-leading cross section calculations. Distributions of the transverse momentum, the angular variable ϕ∗η, and the rapidity of muon pairs, and the transverse momentum of muons in dimuon events are measured. The data are corrected for detector effects and compared to simulations.
