Measurements of b jet shapes in PbPb collisions at ${\sqrt {\smash [b]{s_{_{\mathrm {NN}}}}}}= $ 5.02 TeV
Abstract: We present the first study of b jet shapes, defined as the normalized transverse momentum distribution of charged hadrons as a function of angular distance from the jet axis $\Delta r$, in PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The PbPb data sample used in this study was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb$^{-1}$. The results show that the energy around b jets is redistributed towards larger angles in PbPb collisions as compared to pp collisions. The additional transverse momentum found around b jets at large $\Delta r$ exceeds substantially the additional momentum seen around inclusive jets in PbPb compared to the inclusive reference obtained from pp data.
