Abstract: A search for narrow resonances decaying to dijet final states is performed in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}= $ 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.8 fb$^{-1}$. The data is collected by the CMS detector with a novel technique called data scouting using a loose online data selection and a reduced data format. The search extends to low dijet mass, testing previously unprobed low values of resonance couplings to quarks and gluons. No evidence for new particle production is found. The result is interpreted as upper limits on the production cross section as a function of the resonance mass. These limits are translated into an upper limit on the resonance coupling, allowing a comparison with results obtained in the same mass region at lower collision energies. These are the most stringent limits to date in the dijet final state for resonances masses between about 500 and 800 GeV. | ||
