Search for monotop in the muon channel in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 8 TeV
Abstract: A search for monotop events is performed with LHC proton-proton collisions at $ \sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{-1}$, recorded by the CMS experiment. We select events containing a single top quark decaying leptonically produced in association with missing transverse energy. Events are required to have one isolated muon, an energetic b-tagged jet and large missing transverse energy. The transverse mass of the W boson from the top quark is used to perform the search. No deviation from standard model predictions is observed and exclusion limits at 95% confidence level for resonant and flavour changing production modes of monotop final state are computed. For a coupling strength of 0.1, the resonant production mode is excluded for scalar resonant particle masses up to 1610 GeV and fermionic invisible particle masses ranging from 10 to 200 GeV. The flavour changing production mode is excluded for invisible vector particle masses lower than 523 GeV.
