Abstract:
We present a model-independent search for heavy resonances decaying totˉt pairs using 19.7~fb−1 of data recorded by the CMS detector in pp collisions at √s=8~TeV. The search is based on events containing two leptons (electron or muon) , at least two jets, and large missing transverse energy. No deviation is observed over the expected rate from standard model processes. We set 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the production cross section for heavy resonances decaying to top quark-antiquark pairs in the mass range of 1~TeV -- 3~TeV. Lower mass limits are set for the decays of narrow and wide width leptophobic topcolor Z' bosons, as well as for Kaluza-Klein gluon excitations as predicted in theories beyond the standard model.
