Search for a Higgs boson decaying into gamma*gamma to mu+mu-gamma
Abstract: A search for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons, one of which has an internal conversion into a muon pair, is described. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The events, collected at a center-of-mass energy of 8\,TeV, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7\,fb1. Events are selected which have an opposite-sign muon pair and a high transverse momentum photon. No excess above background has been found in the 120--150\,GeV mass range and the first limits have been derived for the Higgs boson production cross section times the Hγγμμγ branching fraction for dimuon invariant mass less than 20\,GeV. The observed limit for a Higgs boson of mass 125\,GeV is about ten times the standard model cross section times branching fraction.
